Beat, pause and silence: inspired by music, rhythm and the empty space in between.

Beat, pause and silence, is an ongoing collection of collages where I explore the relationship between sound, silence, and visual rhythm .

Music is an important part of my life, and for these works I take inspiration from musical sequences and sound rhythm patterns, where individual elements come together by repetition, variation and pauses.

Each composition starts with my gradient drawings, which I cut into rectangular fragments and rearrange into a grid-like structure. The combination of rhythm, color hue and intensity, patterns, and also empty spaces gives each work its own character and underlying idea. The colored sections can be seen as sounds or notes within a musical composition, while variations in color hue are interpreted as different intensities and quality of sound. The empty spaces act as pauses or moments of silence and influence the rhythm of the whole work.

These visual relationships are also the inspiration for the titles of the works. I choose musical tempo indications according to the pace or feeling that each finalized work suggests me. In this way, the tittle becomes the main expression of the works character, inviting the viewer to imagine its rhythm.

I enjoy working with repetition and patterns, but also breaking them to discover unexpected relationships. When I rearrange previously existing works, I give them a new life and create compositions that otherwise could not have been planned from the beginning and somehow its a way to bring spontaneity to my artistic process.
